Loving SuperPutty!! Got some Issues tho.
  • Thank you all for continuing this google code project. I found this a couple of days ago and love it.

I've got some issues I've found. I thought I would raise them. (I'm running windows XP sp3)
    1. Switching focus - If I have SuperPutty open and say a pdf, when I select the putty window I get focus but on the task bar the pdf is still the active window. This then means that I can't switch back to the pdf by clicking it on the taskbar. If I select the SuperPutty top bar (The one with FIle, Tools and Help) It does work correctly.
    2. Slow startup - startup takes about 15 seconds on my laptop
    3. Tab Titles - I use SuperPutty with GNS3 and when I connect to a device all I get on the tab is 127.0.0.1. If I have multiple devices that means I get a lot of 127.0.0.1 tabs. (just to add to this the SuperPutty from google code uses the session names that have been created eg R1, R2 etc., so something is being pulled from the putty window).
Even with these issues I'm loving SuperPutty and love using it with GNS3. Thank you again and I look forward to the next release.
    Cheers
    Rochey
  • Yeah, #1 is an issue that was driving me insane trying to debug. Still don't have a proper fix yet.

#2, not sure, that might be your machine and the .net framework. Could also be the auto-update feature and lag to github (where the version file is located).

#3 I believe I have some code that will be in the next release that does just that.  It will include the IP address as well as putty session name.  I wanted this for using KeePass so I could hit my global autotype key and have it log into the server based on title name.
  • Found another fault. Quite a serious one. When I try to use SuperPutty at work, I get about 10 secs of disk activity and then I get
"SuperPutty has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I don't know if this is to do with checking for updates and me being behind the company firewall.

    Look forward to the update.
  • Hrm, can you take a screen shot of that?  There's no code in the project with that message so I don't think it's actually SuperPutty generating the message.  I did commit some code today that allowed users to choose if they want to do update checks or not. Hopefully there will be a release with this and other changes soon.
  • I'm at home at the moment but will get you a screenshot tomorrow when I'm at work.
The message is the standard windows environment type error containing "SuperPutty has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It doesn't look like it's generated by SuperPutty.
The reason I thought it might be to do with the updates is because we use a proxy and I've had other software that crashed when trying to go through the proxy.

Hi, I also have that issue. Program installs fine, it lets me choose puttys.exe location, but after that it dies to never work again.
I get error window like that: http://img840.imageshack.us/i/windowsinstallerstopped.jpg/ (I have polish version of windows 7, so there is no point in pasting screenshot with actual error window), and nothing more. Setting compatibility modes, run as administrator etc does not work, still the same behaviour.
Verision 1.0000 by Jim Radford works without problem,.

  • Xsytry,

Ok.  Look for a release in the next day or 2. It will ask you if you want to do automatic update checks when you start the software. If you select no, it should fix your issue. It will remember your choice so you'd have to do your own update checks after that.

Are you behind a proxy or anything? Can you get to github.com?

  • Yes, I am behind proxy. I can get to github.com through browser with no problem. Hope that issue will go away.
  • Did this get resolved?
  • Forgot to write here. Superputty works like a charm now. Thanks :)
  • Awesome!
